Madia Swicord,  LMT, ERYT 500, Teacher Trainer
Chattanooga Yoga School Owner and Director

She is Licensed Massage Therapist and has an extensive background in helping people with physical and emotional pain relief. Her passion is to assist someone on their journey to self discovery and awakening to more energy and joy via a variety of ancient and modern mind/body techniques.  She has advanced training in “Yoga Philosophy” and utilizes Hakomi Principles of “assisted self-study” and Presence based Coaching. She innately threads all these elements into her teacher trainings, yoga classes and her private sessions.

She has been honored to work alongside a Psychiatrist and several Psychologists over the past 10 years to support and assist patients on their path to healing through trauma and difficulty.

Madia has over 20 years of professional experience in this holistic field of mind-body healing.  This has been her passion and full-time career. This is significant because education and credentials are important but someone who has “lived” the years of experience cannot be compared to. She can assist you in personal development AND in how to develop a career in this field and using Yoga as a platform.

“I have dedicated my intellectual as well as self development studies on how the mind and body relate and effect each other. I began this path in 1983 BEFORE people gave it any credit as “legit”. I found this to be very challenging to continue because it was discounted but I knew this Truth and stayed on my Path and it has been fruitful on all levels. I want to help you discover your passion and path” Madia

"Her understanding of anatomy, physiology and movement in combination with her skills as a caring therapist and teacher of Eastern disciplines has been highly effective.  This has increased my sense of wellness and ability to know and respond to my body" Dr. John Gwin

“Madia is an experienced and compassionate yoga teacher and body worker who is intensely focused on healing bodies and minds with her refined knowledge of anatomy coupled with yoga psychology.  Madia's dedication to her craft is evident to anyone who has ever met her.”  Private client

She is a Graduate of the rigorous 2 year “Professional Training of Hakomi Mindfulness Experiential Therapy” in Asheville, NC. Hakomi is a body-centered psychotherapy that can be experienced as "assisted self-study".

She is currently at the end of a 3 year intensive program of Presence based Coaching and will be Certified in this profound skill by 2020.

Heather Monson-James, ERYT-500, LCSW, Teacher Trainer

hmjpromopic.jpg

Heather invites you home to a place of harmony, quiescence, and dharmic inquiry. Acknowledging that we are on a quest to embrace the fullness of this human experience, to experience integration, meaning, and purpose in our lives, Heather brings a sense of “let’s be curious” to the exploration of connection. Enlivened by the “art of gathering,” Heather offers you space, humor, kinship, as well as tools for living authentically while crafting a practice of self-inquiry and purpose.

As a student of life, a thinker, and a philosopher, Heather began formal yoga studies in 1999 as a further extension of her curiosity around healing and augmentation to her work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She began sharing her practice with others in 2013 and earned the designation of E-RYT 500 from Yoga Alliance in 2018. Mixing psychology, science, and the arts of movement and stillness,  she works through the lens of self-integration, purpose, meaning, and a “moving in the direction of” versus the arrival.

Heather’s practice and approach to yoga has been validated by her dedication to the lineage and deep offerings of those who have spent their lifetime studying yoga. As such, she has studied extensively with Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph.D., P.T.  Fondly referred to by Heather as “The Mother of Restorative Yoga,” Judith is one of the founders of modern yoga in the United States. Having earned her certification as an Advanced Relax and Renew ® Registered Teacher, Heather travels internationally to learn and assist Judith in teaching Relax and Renew® yoga and Experiential Anatomy.  Furthermore, Heather’s fascination with anatomy and functional movement has evolved and been supported by her work and studies with Mary Richards, M.S.,C-IAYT. Mary offers integrative health education based on her decades of study in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, cadaver dissection, and therapeutic movement in addition to her Master’s degree in Yoga Therapy.

If you want to find Heather, look no farther than the water that surrounds our city...one of the many trails that Chattanoogans find out their back door...or among a big stack of books...she will be on the paddleboard soaking up the waves and the sun, in her hiking shoes climbing to the top of any plateau or any mountain she can find, or buried beneath pages of well written words.  In these ways she finds solace and quiet, the respite from all of the to-do’s of our everyday. This pause that she re-discovers over and over allows her to bring the quiet and still into her everyday.

Marcus James, special guest

Marcus embodies a kind and steady presence that invites you to be who you are, where you are, right now.  Ever the student of life and never one to shy away from a conversation with a stranger, he finds great enjoyment in this journey we as humans share.  Informed by over 25 years of practice in Western medicine as a Surgical RN 1st Assist, Marcus has moved into a deeper inquiry and study into integrative and holistic tools for healing and wellness. He enjoys offerings both in private and group settings as an Ayurvedic Counselor, sharing Reiki and Marma Point work, and offerings in iRest Yoga Nidra.

Marcus studied iRest Yoga Nidra with Richard Miller, PhD. and is a Certified iRest Level 1 teacher in training.  He holds a 600 hour Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor certification and he also is trained in Reiki, Level 2. As a Restorative Yoga junkie, he has found time to study under Judith Lasater and enjoys the art of assisting in his free time.  During his next lifetime, he hopes to devote long days of learning into the art of Vedic Astrology, a science that continues to captivate and intrigue his attention.

His special interests include collaborative offerings of iRest Yoga Nidra with Restorative Yoga, sharing Marma Point and Reiki in group settings, and co-facilitating and creating retreats for those seeking respite, cooking offerings, and the great outdoors.  He takes great pleasure in the infusion of gatherings with wholesome and delicious foods and tea infusions, nature, and the ability to care for others...this delights him.

Outside of the constraints of the day to day, you can find Marcus on his mountain bike on one of the many great trails surrounding Chattanooga, on the river with Heather and Ella, or at the grill trying to recreate the flavor of a swordfish filet cooked long ago.

Special Guest

Carmen Maria Jacaj RYT-200

When I first set foot on the yoga path as a child, I instantly felt a sense of returning home. As an adult, in 2006, at Anala Yoga School with Ally Ford, I chose to ignite that inner-sense by earning a RYT-200 Certification with an emphasis on Ashtanga and Vinyasa styles. And went on to receive a Level II Certification in Amrit Yoga, with Gurudev and Kamani Desai (2012) and a Level I in Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan (2013).

My passion for learning led me to take on a mentor from 2003-2007, supporting my certification as an Applied Emotional Mastery coach. My journey continued in understanding and integrating energy healing modalities such that I received certifications in Pranic Healing, became a Qi Qong Practitioner, and am certified to teach White Lotus form. Today, I study with Master teacher Orlando at Sadhana Center in Clearwater.

I have a heart for Women Circles and currently offer meditation and tools to empower women through the Sisters of the Heart monthly gatherings.

I am passionate about learning and sharing my knowledge through experiential ways that integrate the mind, body and spirit.  I enjoy creating a sacred, safe space for people to connect to the source of light and love within, which I believe is the foundation needed to anchor the light in the world today.
